Just the Facts Ma'am...

Some officers absolutely despise evidence work. I truly enjoy evidence work. There's just something very satisfying about taking a clean surface and flinging graphite powder all over it, and finding fingerprints in the resulting mess. I feel like David Copperfield making something appear out of nothing. It's freakin' magic!

I have developed my own style and technique for developing fingerprints, and I am very possessive about my crime scenes. I have a really hard time letting go of pieces of the scene for other officers to process. Maybe I have OCD or something. I want to process everything, or else I'll feel like something was missed. I'm slowly overcoming this habit, but it's been a real struggle.

Evidence work can make or break a case. The evidence is ultimately able to speak for itself. There is no he said / she said. There is no bias. There is no lying, or "hiding the truth". Evidence speaks only the truth.

I really would love to get more into learning the detective/evidence gathering part of Law Enforcement. Chemistry & Biology were always favorites of mine in school and with my degree in Psychology and previous experience as a counselor....I would love to eventually get my masters in Forensic Psychology and use that as I analyze cases and gather evidence. Some day. For now, I remain the low man (or woman!) on the totem pole. ;)
