Snow Day...

We took the little "Smiths" to the snow today. It was the youngest one's first time to play in the snow. We went up to Emigrant Gap, just west of Donner Summit and found a big empty meadow off a side road. There were several other groups there, but it wasn't terribly crowded. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. It had to have been in the low 60's, and I was running around in a t-shirt.

The snow was pretty loosely packed and I found myself nearly up to my... ummm... waist, a few times. Beautiful, white, fluffy, soft snow. While tobogganing down a hill I was reminded of a small fact I had forgotten in the many years since I last slid down a snow covered hill... SNOW HURTS!

It may be soft when you're trying to stand on it, but when you're sliding across it, not so much. The snow we were on was covered with a layer of ice crystals, and it might as well have been frozen sand paper. There are still pieces of my knuckles and elbow on that slope. But hey, it was fun anyway.

Not to mention rather beautiful...

And my snow bunny...

Don't make fun of my snow bunny dammit... He'll frostbite your ankles...

I think your snow bunny is cute, with his floppy right ear.

Beautiful photos! :)
Sounds like all y'all had a great time playing in the snow.
Must be nice to have 60 degree weather and wear a t-shirt in the snow. Here? It is below zero and we have at least 2 feet of snow/ice everywhere. And it won't be going away anytime soon.
Someday I hope to move back South where there is no snow. :)

Gosh, I remember the days of "going to the snow". We usually went up to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead.

Where we are now, the snow comes to us. I like waking up in the morning and finding it's already out there. I just make sure I stay inside where it's toasty warm. That's the key.

Beautiful pics!
