A Day in the Life...

Here's a transcript of a stop I made the other day on a vehicle in the carpool lane with only one occupant. It's a bit condensed to cut out the unimportant parts:

Me: Hi there. Can I see your driver's license please?

Driver: Sure (Hands me an ID card).

Me: Great, now how about your driver's license?

Driver: I don't have it.

Me: You don't have it with you, or you don't have a license.

Driver: It's suspended.

Me: Well, then why are you driving?

Driver: I have to get to work. I work hard, ya' know? And I have to drive... to get to work. I had some tickets, but I took care of all that.

Me: Uh huh. But your license is still suspended?

Driver: Uhhh, yeah.

Me: Tell me something. If you are driving with a suspended license, does it make any sense for you to drive in the carpool lane without any passengers? Doesn't that sort of call unwanted attention to you?

Driver: Yeah, I guess so.

Me: And tell me something else. If you're driving on a suspended license, does it make any sense for you to drive a Toyota with license plates that belong on a Chevy?

Driver: No. I guess not. But somebody stole my license plates so I took the license plates off my other car.

Me: And your registration is expired on this car.

Driver: It is?

Me: For over a year.

Driver: Oh.

Me: But that has nothing to do with why you switched the license plates, right?

Driver: Right. And that's the honest to God truth.

Me: Sign here. Press hard, there are four copies.

Driver: You're not going to tow my car are you?

Me: You were driving in the carpool lane by yourself, with a suspended license, with false plates, with registration that expired over a year ago. Yes, I think I am going to tow it.

Driver: Man, that's just wrong.

Me: I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think his "cunning plan” started to fall apart when he handed you his ID card instead of his divers licence. Who would have it wouldn't work.
Keep up the good work.

Just had one about an hour ago that was permanently revoked for 3 offenses of DWLR, with 2 DWLR charges pending. He got another one and his car towed. He thought it was wrong too. *snicker* Idiot.
"Press hard..." ROFLMAO!

Wonder how he thought it was going to end?

Y'know, I sometimes think people actually believe "I have to go to work" is a legal justification for driving with a suspended license.

I have lost count of how many times I've heard that one. And then they get all offended when I tell them about the wonders of public transportation.

What? Me, ride the bus?

Umm, yes. You see, driving is a privilege not a right.
