Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...

Today we procured our annual traditional holiday foliage. This year, however, we did something completely different.

We cut it down ourselves.

From a tree farm, of course. We didn't poach from the national forest, so don't worry Liz. I have the transport permit to prove it. Anyway...

After a recent trip to Apple Hill, during which we noticed several Christmas tree farms where you can cut down your own tree, we decided to try it. We went to Rapetti Farms, in the Apple Hill area between Placerville and Camino. Today was just about a perfect day for it too. There was about 3/4 inch of fresh snow on the ground, and it was still falling while we were there. It was really, for lack of a better word, "Christmasy".

After about fifteen minutes we found a tree that looked like it needed a friend.

So, we cut it down and brought it home.

Now, we're letting the melted snow evaporate off of the tree tonight before we put lights on it and decorate it tomorrow. It's still really wet. Maybe I'll post another picture after it's lit.

I think we have found a new holiday tradition. We're going to cut our own every year. No more buying trees that were cut a week or so ago in Oregon.

And the folks at Rapetti Farms were great. They will definitely have us as returning customers.

I have a palm tree in my living room that will be my Christmas tree this year. lol. With Kira liking to eat real trees, I don't want to run the risk of her eating a real Christmas tree this year.

Nice tree! You reminded me of my childhood tree hunting excursions with my grandfather and father!

Awwww, what a nice tradition to begin. And, yes, do post pics when it's decorated.

I hadn't thought to worry that you'd poached a tree. But since you mention it, it's a good thing you have the paperwork to back it up. ;)
