The memorial service was today. These are my final words on the tragic deaths of
Sergeant Mark Dunakin
Officer John Hege
Sergeant Erv Romans
Sergeant Dan Sakai
for now, we must move on.
The four of you gave your all, and ultimately you gave your lives, in service to the people of the City of Oakland. You felt that the citizens of Oakland were deserving of your effort, and you gave 110% to them. You loved working in a place many of us wouldn't dare to tread.
As with most police funerals I've been to, I didn't know you personally. But that doesn't change the fact that you were all my brothers. We all bleed blue.
You will not be forgotten by the people of Oakland. You will not be forgotten by the surviving officers of the O.P.D. And, you will not be forgotten by the rest of us working the streets of the bay area.
Your families will be looked after in your absence. Fear not.
May you all live on forever patrolling the golden streets of Heaven. Mark and John, I bet you can't wait to see those gold plated Road Kings. Erv, Dan, I'm sure there'll be gold AR's for you.
May you all have fair seas and blue skies forever.

May they rest in peace. They won't be forgotten. At least we won't be wasting any time of money on the piece of crap responsible for their loss.

These photos stirred a lot of emotion for me. I never met any of these fine men but I feel as if I knew them. When I looked at their faces I was reminded of the many fine men and women I'm priviliged to work alongside everyday. Law Enforcement truly is a family and a bond that is indescribable. Rest in Peace Brothers.
