Pondering, Yet Again...

Rosa Parks was a brave and amazing woman. What she did in Mobile, Alabama was necessary, and ballsy, and contributed hugely to the whole equal rights movement. By refusing to sit in the back of the bus, Ms. Parks sparked a fire that culminated in the laws being changed so that black people no longer had to sit in the back of the bus. I'm not giving a history lesson here, just laying foundation. If you want to know more about Rosa Parks, you can look it up on Wikipedia.

What I want to know is this. After Ms. Parks went to all the trouble, facing arrest, persecution from white folks, and potential violence...

Why do black people around here still make it a point to sit at the very back of the bus?

For the same reason that they celebrate Martin Luther King's struggle to ensure that they could have equality in the workplace and the schools by taking the day off from work and school.

I hope not. It was intended to be both humorous and thought provoking.

Because it used to be shameful to sit in the back, but now it's cool. Kind of like using the n-word...
