Free Leonard Peltier...

With purchase of a second Leonard Peltier of equal or lesser value.

Prices vary with weight.

Offer also valid on Mumia Abu-Jamal.

My city is close enough to Berkeley, that we have signs everywhere saying "FREE LEONARD".

I stopped a guy while he was hammering a FREE LEONARD sign into one of my city trees. I asked him why he was hammering this sign into my tree, and he replied "Because he's a political prisoner". Oh really? Who is this Leonard fellow? "He's a political prisoner of the federal government." Oh. What's Leonard's last name? "I don't know".

Wait just a cotton pickin' minute there Sparky. You're posting signs on my trees that call to free a person you know nothing about? We had a little conversation about Leonard Peltier, and I educated this little puke about why Peltier is in prison.

Leonard Peltier is a convicted cop killer, whom a jury felt there was sufficient evidence to convict and sentence to two life terms in prison.

I stopped another individual who was posting a "Free Mumia" sticker on a local stop sign. When asked much the same questions as the Free Leonard idiot, the only answer he could give was "Because he's innocent. They only put him in prison because he's black."

I'm sure Officer Daniel Faulkner would disagree. If Mumia hadn't killed him.

Mumia Abu-Jamal, Wesley Cook, is also a cop killer. A jury not only saw fit to convict him, but also to sentence him to death. That is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Oh, and changing your name while you're in prison does not make you innocent, does not lessen what you did, and does not make me feel as if you have "reformed yourself". You're still, and always will be, the slime on the bottom of the ooze on the underside of pond scum, but I digress...

I am afraid I am somewhat biased against Peltier and Cook, because for some reason I really don't like cop killers.

As such, I have a difficult time understanding why people who can't be bothered to research the cases, find out the proper information and make an informed decision, feel the need to run around my city, and all of the surrounding cities, vandalizing my stop signs, hammering on my trees, and generally acting like a pain in the ass for a cause they know little to nothing about.

I love making these people feel like idiots because I have troubled myself to actually learn about their supposed "cause". Just once, I would like to meet one of these people who actually KNOWS something about their "cause", so we could sit down and have an educated conversation about the cases.

Instead, I always find people who blindly proclaim injustice, prejudice and racism. People who claim law enforcement, the courts and the government are all inherently corrupt. People who just want to use one of these cases as an excuse for their ignorant and illegal actions. People who claim to support a political cause they know absolutely nothing about.

It's rather difficult to take such people seriously...

A series of books by Terry Goodkind is called the "Sword of Truth", and the first books is named : Wizards First Rule.

Which is?

People are stupid, and will believe anything, however wrong, if enough people tell them.

Sigh. It gets proven to be right too often I fear.

A side note on Mumia, I read a news article some time ago in a law enforcemnt periodical about Mumia and learned some interesting things. There are in addition to many celebs and individuals still sending him support money, but Snapple, Paul Newman brand foods, and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream all send him large amounts of cash, and as such, I don't allow dispatcher to buy any of those products much to her dismay. She was a HUGE Ben & Jerrys fan. - Officer

I spent some of my "formative" years in Richmond :) Went to Berkeley once for a Jimmy Buffet concert at the amphitheater. Good show. I miss the hiking and camping in northern CA, but I'm afraid I'd become a serial libtard murderer if ever moved back. :(

I concur with "The Dispatcher & Her Officer." There are several major companies and celebrities that support Mumia and other black "political prisoners" (aka cops killers). I was sickened when I saw the list. And I quit buying certain products because of it, too. Like Ben & Jerry's ice cream....*sigh*
It repulses me to think that there are uninformed idiots out there who just leech onto these "causes" only because the persons involved are black. What ever happened to the truth?!? The truth that these 2 men killed cops!
I HATE cop killers and I HATE cop killer supporters. Nothing gets my blood boiling more!

I always thought there was no doubt that Mumia did it, but real doubt about Peltier. I don't really see them as equivalent.

It realy saddens me to see when people do this - it's akin to the detachment some feel when hearing news of a case when they do not know all the facts. For if they knew all the facts they would be horrified.

So does it surprise me that big companies would get behind such people - yes, it does. I guess the CEO's of said companies really are out to lunch.

Kudos for actually stopping and challenging the people you saw nailing the signs up. I'm not sure I could have done the same wihout losing my temper.

I can't tell you how sad I was to know I could no longer eat my Chubby Hubby-Ben and Jerry's Ice cream! When my officer showed me the articles and list of companies I ceased supporting any of them. I have thus lost a lot of weight!!! And Hag-n-dazs is getting richer!
