Up in Arms...

HR-45 was brought to my attention this week.

This is the Blair Holt’s Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009.

It was only a matter of time. This resolution is aimed at requiring licensure to own or possess "qualified firearms".

According to the text of the resolution, a "qualifying firearm" is ANY HANDGUN or any semi-automatic firearm capable of accepting a detachable ammunition feeding device.

Basically, if you want to own anything other than a shotgun or bolt or lever action rifle, you'd have to get a license.

The next logical step is to figure out ways to avoid giving people licenses, thereby ending lawful ownership of handguns and semi-automatic rifles. Then only criminals will have them.

I don't know about you, but I don't exactly fancy the idea of trying to defend my family against an AK-47 toting hoodlum, using nothing but a bolt action .308. Yes, I am quite a confident shot, but when you're returning fire while under fire, it's nice to have those extra 25 rounds.

Until the feds can devise a way to take guns from criminals, while preserving the rights of the rest of us, I will not endorse any gun control act such as this.

So, let's go boys and girls. Break out the most powerful weapon you have. Your pen.

Write your representatives and tell them what you think.

I do not support any gun control that is up on any state or federal level. I am an NRA member and believe in the 2nd amendment rights for all Americans who legally qualify to own a gun.

Don't sweat it. This bill has NO co-sponsors and the guy who initially sponsored it is a fruit loop nobody takes seriously. This legislation is going nowhere.

Brother Roanoke Cop - That's what General George A. Custer thought... I say, while I pray you are truely correct, I have seen some crazy governmental actions as of late, and I am not one for sitting by. So I too will be and encourage all to contact their reps. - Officer

I said it can't hurt to contact your politicians. But every indication of this particular bill is that it is DOA.

If you aren't a member of the NRA now, become one while you still can.

I think there's a storm brewing in this country. I think people in this country are sick-and-damned-tired of criminal running amok, while their own freedoms are being slowly strangled in the name of "crime control".

People are beginning to finally realize that the only one responsible for your own safety is YOU. Efforts to curtail their own abilities to defend themselves will be met with resistance.

Another example of Big Brother trying to take control away from the law abiding people a little bit at a time until we've lost our individual freedoms.
As it is written in our Country's Declaration of Independence ....Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That when ever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the RIGHT OF THE PEOPLE to alter or abolish it, and to institute a new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.
Looks like dark days ahead for free intelligent thinking people as the rest are blindly lead to slaughter.

I was going to chat up some of our local officers about how they see an armed citizenry. If I'm being stabbed to death in the parking lot, please take the chance and SHOOT him before you call 911. Carry a handgun, cops are too heavy for everyday use. :)
