FTA Excuses...

"The court records and the officer's testimony indicate that you signed a written promise to appear in this court on or before August 15th of 2008, but you did not appear until mid-February of 2009. Do you have any information in that regard?"

I have heard some real doozies for people who failed to appear on a citation.

"I was incarcerated at that time." - I'm shocked!

"I couldn't get the day off work." - Umm, you had 60 days to get to the court!

"I was out of the country." - Again, 60 days...

"I came to court, but they said they didn't have the ticket." - While this one might be a justifiable reason for FTA, I just find it amazing that nobody EVER gets something in writing from the clerk that they actually were there on the day they claim.

Then they gripe about the $105 fine...

Hmm..... last cite I had was for an expired inspection sticker. Not a big issue, just pay a small fine and get the vehicle inspected. The ticket I got was blank for $ numbers... and the officer said the JP fills in what he wants there. I was at the JP's office two days later to pay it... and was told they wouldn't even have a copy of the ticket to look at for a week or two. I pointed out that was AFTER my window to appear and pay it, and they told me not to worry about it...
