On Moderation...

Note: This is not aimed at any one person. It is the result of several comments over the past month or so.

I've noticed recently that I have been getting a lot of comments to various blog posts from people who question my heredity, my reasons for becoming a police officer, or otherwise just make asinine comments to no end other than to make a fool of themselves.

I don't know if folks think I'm going to read the comments, then reject them because I have moderation turned on, but guess what. It's not my job to keep you from making an ass of yourself on my blog. I will only reject comments when they become threatening, repeatedly irrelevant or tiresome.

I will not reject a comment just because the commenter makes himself sound like a condescending, egotistical prick with an axe to grind.

BTW, throwing a "Keep up the good work" or "Cool blog though" on the end, doesn't change the tone of your comment.

For the record, none of you know me. You have no idea who I am, why I do what I do, or what shortcomings I may or may not have other than what I have felt it appropriate to share on this blog. By making comments to the effect that I am on a power trip, I should find better things to do than write parking tickets, or cops are pigs, you do not make me look bad. You make yourself look like an ass.

My comment moderation settings will not change that for you...

My e-mail address is right there in my profile. If anyone has anything they feel like they need to say to me, despite the fact they don't know me from Adam, why not do it there.

Trolls will not be abided on this blog...

So sorry you have to deal with them! Such killjoys is a reason why I hardly jot in my blog. If I'm to resume writing regularly, it will be in a new blog admitting NOBODY but my husband.

I do enjoy reading what you have to share! About your job... not blog trolls...

The same people who anonymously bash a police officer online are probably the same bitter assholes who have gotten tickets and feel oh-so wronged by the meanie jerkface police. They need to grow up. I've gotten 2 tickets and still have respect for you guys and what you do.

Haha, that reminds me of the Will Ferral movie where Ricky Bobby says "Mr. Dennit, with all due respect... I had no idea that you had an experimental surgery to have your balls removed," and then argues that you can say anything without rammifications because you said "with all due respect."

Comment moderation is the best thing I could have done for my blog. I still have a few dense haters who try to post retarded comments but I don't post them or respond to them. Don't feed the trolls.

I can surely send some your way if you like...

Don't worry, that troll is probably just angry about the last time he got a ticket. Where he ended up wetting his pants and crying. He should have gotten the upholstery stain guarded. He did what any wuss would do, vent his frustrations on the internet!

Take solace though, if you were a grocer and blogged about your grocery store he'd comment whining about soggy fruit and high prices.

Well said!

For what it's worth, I read a lot of stories about how terrible cops are, how they've been caught stunning grannies, invalids, etc., and how they're all covering up for one another, etc., etc. Sometimes those stories are true, sometimes not.

Mostly, I realize that you guys have a job I wouldn't wish on anyone, and that you deal with people who read those stories and believe them all, and worse. So I always try to be polite. In real life, and on the interwebtron.

Keep up the (assumed) good work. :P
