Today is a sad day for law enforcement, especially in Washington.

4 police officers killed in Wash. coffee shop

As it stands right now, the suspect is still on the loose.

I wish my brothers and sisters in the Tacoma area good hunting...

There's nothing to say about this...other than "Get the bastard."

RIP, my brothers and sister.

I hope they catch this SOB are soon. There is a story saying Mike Huckabee pardoned the alleged shooter in 2000.

From the most current MSN report:

"Two of the officers were shot while sitting down writing police reports, Troyer said. A third officer was shot while getting up to confront the suspect. The fourth officer who was shot fought with the gunman 'all the way out the door' and managed to fire his weapon several times before succumbing to his wounds, Troyer said."

How amazing is that about the third and fourth officers? They saw their buddies shot but they didn't back down. Heroes.

How badly I hope the fourth officer nailed the SOB who did this. Just one slug for evidence would do the trick.

One who done it doesn't deserve to leave at least solitary room in maximum prison ever again... EVER! That is, if not waiting for their turn on death row. I truly hope and pray that they are found quick and soon!

Wait, what? "How amazing is that about the third and fourth officers? They saw their buddies shot but they didn't back down. Heroes"

How could they "back down"? If you've got someone intent on killing you, and has already killed 2 of your friends, how exactly are you going to extract yourself without shooting the perpetrator?

And yeah, if the guy they've got cornered is the perp, he was paroled by Huckabee and has been shot. Still unclear by who or when.

Has to be either a psycho or someone with a serious grudge.

Yes, this scum was pardoned by Huckabee 20 years ago when he was 17. Why he was not slammed back in jail with a life sentence upon the commission of any new crime is beyond me. He also sounds mentally ill from some of the descriptions coming out of Washington. He needed to be locked up!!!

The officers had over 50 years of total law enforcement experience. They each leave a spouse and kids. A tremendous loss to everyone.

So sad, so angry...

You guys dont think that one of the reasons you've got the worst crime in the western world is because of reacting like this to crime? "Throw em in a cell and throw away the key!". Think ahead. The reason why so many of your policeofficers are being shot at is because the criminals are desperate not to end up in jail. Much more so then in most other countries, where you can expect pretty much everyone, including killers, to not kill people to get away from the cops.

Rehabilitate, dont go for vengeance.

By way of update (just in case no one saw although I'm sure y'all did), a Seattle officer shot and killed the son of a bitch before the Seattle officer could become victim #5. Hooray for him... sending this guy straight to hell. The punishment there will hopefully be more severe than we can dish out here.

The State of Washington has officially executed 4 criminals since 1976. As a very small consolation, we can now unofficially add another.

If Shmuckabee hadn't pardoned the bastard, then Clemmons would still be wasting tax dollars and oxygen in Arkansas. Now, the miscreant is out of the picture (but they still need to go after his chauffeurs and other facilitators).

This would be a great deal, except for the minor detail that it cost four trained and functional police officers, and at least one extraneous cop's bullet. All in all, not a good trade for law-abiding society.

Rest in Peace, Officer Tina Griswold, Officer Ronald Owens, Sergeant Mark Renninger and Officer Greg Richards.

And may Maurice Clemmons rot in hell!

Justice has been served. Scumbag is dead, and up to seven of his relatives, friends, and casual acquaintances among the local thug community are being sought for helping him both before and after the murders.

They each need to go away forever, too.

SunTzu,

Are you suggesting when a cop gets killed in Europe the other coppers don't get pissed off too?

Do you believe they go back to the station and say "Right, when we find the perp we'll have to get him to treatment straight away. He certainly needs a good hugging."???

I don't think the Seattle officer shot Clemmons just because Clemmons had killed four cops. I'm sure he would have preferred to take the shitbag into custody and not had to deal with the emotional and legal battles he is surely waging right now as a result of shooting someone, even if that shooting was absolutely righteous. But Clemmons had other ideas and GOT HIMSELF KILLED.

Am I missing your point Sun?

As for the reason so many of us are being shot at, how about a bunch of gang bangers who were never taught to value human life by their drug addict parents and so don't give a shit who they kill?

My comment was aimed mostly at some other commentators on here, not directly at you. In a way they're related though, in that you're in an escalating spiral of violence.

It is possible to treat criminals. Probably not when they're that deep in, but this was no first offender. No first offender ever goes on a killing spree without serious psychological problems. Maybe instead of giving him a long sentance and focusing on keeping him away from society, an incarceration aimed at getting him to not do more crime may have stopped this?

Fact: The US has some of the worst crimerates in the western world. Why? Theres no easy answer to that imo, but there are always reasons.

Of course cops will be extremly upset and angry, thats the same for every force, everywhere. The last time we had a cop killed in Sweden, there was massive outrage. It is however very rare over here, only psychos (In this case, an armed paranoid schizofrenic convinced the cops were there to murder him) or bank robbers (most often eastern european), but it only happens maybe once every 5 years or so.

This was probably a clean kill. Any copkiller can expect to be treated like an extremly hostile and violent person, and any kind of threatening movements will (of course, and as it should) lead to him being shot. The safety of the officer first (within limits of course).
