Irony...

While working one of my favorite duck ponds recently, I had the opportunity to catch up to a speeder, and I intended to pull her over and discuss her indiscretion.

When I caught up and was preparing to hit the lights, I noticed her bumper sticker...

"Something wonderful is about to happen."

I'm sure the folks who live on "speed street" agree...

OK, that's just funny.

Unless you mean she had a bumper sticker saying "speed street", I don't get it :-/

Okay, I guess I should have been a little less ambiguous then.

What I meant was that the people who lived on that particular street and call in every friggin day to complain about speeders would think it was a wonderful thing that my particular speeder happened to be getting a ticket.

Now do you get it?

It is funny, but setting off the sticker text with quotes would have made it less ambiguous:

My question is, "Duck pond?" I take it from context that it means "stretch of road where speeders often appear". Is that standard cop lingo, or your own coinage?

Is this an inside joke?

Yeah, now I get it:)
It's always good when the do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do people get busted.

Ok I'm glad I'm not the only one. Even after reading your reply to Brett's comment, I still don't know what her bumper sticker had to do with anything.

I'm not sure if I have too much love for bitchy people who move into houses next to busy roads and then expect the city and the local constabulary to 'terraform' the neighborhood through reduced speed limits, road obstables, and traffic enforcement.

There's a good reason why the house facing the Speed St. was so much cheaper than the same house on Quiet St. deeper in the neighborhood. As a motorist who actually works for a living, I don't think I support the use of my tax dollars for the benefit of some guy's property values and to my detriment, at that.

I'm sorry, but if I have to explain this one any further, you're just dense.

Honking,

The city did not in any way "Terraform" the city to the liking of the residents. The speed limit has always been the same, and people regularly choose to disregard the clearly, almost obnoxiously, posted speed limit in the area to the tune of up to 30 miles per hour.

I'd like to think if someone came tooling down your 25 MPH street at 55 MPH you'd be a little pissed too.

Well, if saw a vehicle going down the street and I thought that the speed of that particular vehicle didn't "endanger persons or property" at that particular place and moment in time, then I'd have no good reason to be pissed off at the driver of that vehicle, since he/she is just following the law.

Tragically enough, the vast majority of the public who have the time to call in about speeding cars have no clue about the law when it comes to exceeding the posted prima facie limits v. the statutory CA maximums (65mph on most hwys, 55mph for undivided 2 lane hwys, and 25 for designated school zones with children present).

For what it's worth, I also happen to live in an apt complex adjacent to a street that is posted for 30mph due to a school for the blind across the street, but is wide enough to travel at 55-70mph under ideal conditions. The last time I drove there with my dad driving, he was utterly perplexed when someone passed him using the turning lane as he was puttering along at the posted 30mph. GRRRRRR...

Honking Antelope nails it again. I really like his / her comments. I don't have any big problem with officers giving out speeding tickets (it has been a long, long time since I have gotten one), but I don't see it as a wonderful use of taxpayer money either. It is even more wasteful when policemen play meter maid.

How much was the speeder over?

LOL!! Kinda reminds me of the guy on COPS who was wearing a DARE t shirt and they arrested him for drugs:)
