So, I've written a lot about me. Now it's time to write about someone else.
I am very fortunate to have a spouse who at least tries to understand what I do. She keeps the kids from running me down until I have had a chance to come in the door and get my shoes off. She shoves me out the door when I am waffling about whether to take the short notice overtime. She listens when I need to vent, and doesn't pry when I feel the need to hold it in for a while.
My wife knew what she was getting into when she met me, and she came along for the ride anyway. Sometimes she still can't believe she's married to a cop. Her friends can't either.
I have heard some of my co-workers tell how their spouse doesn't want to hear anything about the job. My wife is genuinely interested in what I do. It's nice to be able to talk about things with her. I just have to try sometimes not to scare her.
They say law enforcement has the highest divorce rate of any profession. I guess I'm ahead of the game, because I was already divorced before I became a cop. I can't see it happening again.
