ok that is a really cool pic. Call me a bit of a back woods gal but what the heck is the red stuff coming out? That's a bit too big to be a crop duster! And why is it so close to that house?

That red stuff is retardant.... and no, I'm not calling you names!!
It's a slurry of fertilizer, red dye and some sort of fire retardant chemical I can't recall the name of right now.
The fire tankers drop it in lines ahead of a wildland fire to (hopefully) keep the fire from threatening structures or jumping fire lines.
We get a lot of that out here in the west.
Wow! Well that's alot of retardant!! The fires out there are always shocking to watch on tv. Sadly it doesn't seem that the firemen get much of a break out there.
It's hard to tell perspective, but it looks like those people on the deck got a face full of that stuff... hope it's not too toxic.
