One of our officers is known as a bit of a locksmith.
A group of us were on a detail at a vacant house, where the neighbors had seen people going in and out of the house and believed there were people living in the house illegally. After walking around the outside of the house and finding no unlocked doors or windows, we called Officer Locksmith.
Officer Locksmith arrived and went to work on the back door of the house. After about five or ten minutes of trying he wasn't really having any luck.
Another officer said "Here, can I try those things out?" Officer Locksmith handed him the lock picks.
The officer put the lock pick into the lock, then blew the door open with his shoulder.
"Those work pretty good", he said as he handed the picks back to Officer Locksmith...

That's great! We have an officer who was a professional body builder and won the Mr. California Title at least once that I know of. Needless to say he is a very large man. We once went to a domestic violence call and the male subject was on the other side of the door. Two of our regular size issue police officers were kicking and kicking the door as he would not open the door. Officer Mr. California came up, moved the other officers out of the way and kicked the door so hard it blew the door inward, lock, door, and hinges, landing on the bad guy and pinning him to the floor as officers rushed in. I have also seen officers kick and kick on a door and later learn it was unlocked... hilarious - Officer
In response to Officer's comment...
And people wonder why us hosedraggers say try before you pry.
Awesome!
Kind of like calling the ram, the "key".
We have a former football player who is great on the key.
"Can I try those out?" LOL
There's always one muscular cop that has to show you guys the "right" way to do things...lol:)
Kick'n it old school!
